The solo studio albums of Brandi Carlile, who grew up in the only house for miles outside Seattle, nearly died of meningitis at four, taught herself piano, picked up a guitar at seventeen, and has played with the same two twin brothers ever since — splitting every songwriting credit three ways regardless of who wrote what. Eight albums, 2005 to 2025, from a self-titled debut Columbia signed off home recordings to the record that made her the most-nominated woman at the 2019 Grammys.
