How points work
Points reward you for playing well, not just for showing up. The better you score relative to everyone else who has played a quiz, the more points you earn.
The formula
For each featured quiz, you earn:
points = round(percentile × max-points)
Percentileis the share of completed takes you beat. If you outscored 80% of takers, that’s 80. If you tied for first across the board, that’s 100.
Max-points is set per quiz by the tier scale below.
Tier scale
- Easy — up to 5 points
- Medium — up to 10 points (the default for new quizzes)
- Hard — up to 25 points
- Expert — up to 50 points
Difficulty starts as an editor’s estimate and gets recalibrated daily as real players take the quiz. A quiz that turns out to be harder than expected promotes into a higher tier on its own; the points per take rise to match.
Medals
A medal is what a quiz awards you for how well you played it, at the difficulty you chose. You keep the best one you have earned; a weaker run never takes it away.
- Bronze — a perfect run on Easy, or 80% or better on Medium.
- Silver — a perfect run on Medium, or 80% or better on Hard.
- Gold — a perfect run on Hard. Nothing below a perfect Hard run earns Gold, so a run that goes clean on an easier setting will not lift you past Silver.
A perfect Gold run with a modifier switched on adds a mark to the medal: ★ for Random order, † for Sudden Death, and both if you used both.
Untimed runs are practice. They are never scored and never earn a medal, so the medal on a quiz always came from a real timed attempt.
Improving your score
You only earn the delta when you improve. If you scored 40th percentile last time and 80th this time, you bank the difference — not the full new amount. Replaying without improving is a no-op for points (your total stays put), but the take still counts toward streaks, trophies, and stats.
Featured-only
Only featured quizzes award points. We curate which quizzes get featured so nobody can spin up a 5-question vanity quiz and rack up unlimited points off easy takes.
Daily Trivia is on its own scoring track — faster answers earn more.
Levels
Levels grow on a curve so each one takes a bit more than the last. Level N sits at (N−1)² × 50 total points. Level 2 starts at 50, level 3 at 200, level 5 at 800, level 10 at 4,050, and so on.
Overrides
Admin curators can set a custom max-points (1–100) on a flagship quiz to override the tier. A definitive “Name every country in the world” quiz might earn 100 points even though it calibrates as medium. Override aside, the tier does the work.
